Okay, I was sucked into researching salt on the web. Salt, as in table salt. I kept running across websites that described table salt as literal poison for the human body. In my search for fact, besides realizing I should have paid attention in Chemistry class, I wrote to some of the people writing the articles. Below, you can see my exchange with one of them.

When it comes to logic and debate, I am very fuzzy. But even I can see that these people aren’t being completely straightforward in their presentation.

If they have a valid point, why don’t they just give the facts and then explain why they think there is a problem with table salt? Why do they need to lie about it or embroider it or twist it to make it part of their agenda?

And agenda they do have, as they state below: they want you to buy their nascent iodine and thus wrote the article to explain why table salt is… bad for you.

Oh, and by the way, table salt is not bad for you. Fight me.

Here it is, verbatim. All spelling and grammar errors are their own:

Hi
In your article [on globalhealingcenter.com], The Health Dangers of Table Salt, you say, “the chemical based salt industry began to add synthetic forms of iodine to their products.” I am curious: what do they make synthetic iodine out of?

[I must note here that iodine is a naturally occurring element, with an atomic number of 53. There’s plenty of it. I was wondering how someone would synthesize it out of something else, leaving aside the reasoning for doing such an undertaking.]

Hello,

Thank you for contacting us.

We apologize for the confusion, and we’ll be happy to help. Essentially, the “synthetic forms of iodine” refers to the chemical mixture added to table salt which includes toxic amounts of potassium iodide. This form of iodide is still considered beneficial in reasonable amounts, but the sodium solo-co-aluminate, fluoride sodium bicarbonate, anti-caking agents, bleach and aluminium derivatives add to the toxic cocktail and inhibit the proper absorption of iodine.

To our knowledge, foods and high-grade iodine supplements are a better alternative to the little benefit iodized salt provides. Here you have more information:

After receiving this email, I called them up to find out a. what is considered a toxic amount of potassium iodide, and b. what is the substance used to bleach table salt.

I spoke with Rose herself. She wasn’t able to answer those questions off the top of her head and said she would follow up and get the answer through research.

I received the following email in reply:

Hello,

Hope you’re doing well.

It was a pleasure meeting you by phone on Wednesday. Firstly, I want to assure you that I understand your concerns, and so I referred your inquires to the appropriate department for review. Please know that it was not my intention to mislead you or engender fear, as my response included the information in the article, “The Health Dangers of Table Salt,” in a more concise manner.

Moreover, in searching for what constitutes toxic amounts of potassium iodide and the type of beach used in table salt, we are were unable to locate further details about these statements. This is now something that our Team will review so that we can properly modify the content on our page. We appreciate you bringing this to our attention.

In reference to your initial inquiry, we believe that it’s best to take ingest iodine in a pure, natural form, or rather, as an inorganic detoxified iodine; iodine found in its organic state is toxic to the body. Table salt in its total sum is thought to be synthetic since it incorporates unnecessary additives to imitate natural salt.

We are advocates of nascent iodine (atomic form) since it carries an incomplete number of electrons, giving it a high electromagnetic charge, and the body can absorb and use nascent iodine easily for metabolic and detoxification processes.

I realize that my response may not meet your expectations, however, we must affirm that the views and nutritional advice expressed by Global Healing Center are not intended to be a substitute for conventional medical service. Additionally, our information is provided so that our customer’s can make decisions about their health with their own personal discretion.

Should you have any other questions, comments, or concerns, feel free to reply here or contact us at 1-800-476-0016 10am-6pm CST M-F.

Kind regards,

Dear Rose,

Thank you for your reply. I look forward to seeing corrected information on your website. Perhaps you could also take a look at this statement to see if it could be clarified:
Table salt in its total sum is thought to be synthetic since it incorporates unnecessary additives to imitate natural salt.

Which additives are added to table salt to imitate natural salt? Could you list them, please? I’m assuming you don’t mean the anti-caking agents which are added to table salt.

Thank you so much.

Hello,

Thank you for your reply.

We appreciate your patience and understanding. In reference to the above sentence, it refers to the thought process of the initial article and why we advocate for other sources of iodine supplementation; the intention of the article was geared towards table salt as a whole, as opposed to simply isolating the potassium iodide. Of course, as previously mentioned, we were unable to locate further research about these statements, and the article has been sent to the appropriate department for review.

Our apologies for the misplaced sentenced, however, feel free to let us know if you need anything else.

Have a good evening.

Kind regards,

Rose
